Investing in Lafayette’s Future

  • Our schools, infrastructure, parks and community spaces all need sustainable funding. At the same time, residents are feeling the strain of tax stacking and higher costs of living.
One of the few financial levers we can have meaningful influence over is sales tax revenue. When you spend money at a Lafayette business, a portion of that spending goes back into supporting city services and community investments.

By bringing more visitors, supporting local businesses, and thoughtfully attracting commerce, we can strengthen our financial position to fund community priorities without relying solely on new taxes and grants.

  • Lafayette has talked about pedestrian safety for years but now it’s time to turn studies, plans, and community conversations into meaningful improvements that protect residents of all ages.

Today, one of the biggest challenges is the lack of a clear and safe connection between the heavily used Lafayette-Moraga Trail and our downtown commercial district. Hundreds of people use the trail each day, yet there ist still no safe, intuitive way for pedestrians and cyclists to cross either Mt. Diablo Blvd or Moraga Rd to reach downtown businesses and community spaces.

  • Lafayette is growing, and we have an opportunity to shape that growth thoughtfully.
Over the next ten years, state housing requirements could bring up to 2,000 new housing units to our downtown impacting traffic, mobility, and public spaces.

To keep Lafayette safe, connected, and livable, we need to invest now in walkable streets, bike infrastructure, and transit connections.

  • Lafayette has strong economic potential, but unlike many other Bay Area cities, we do not have a dedicated economic development team focused on attracting businesses, filling vacancies, and bridging the gap between public and private stakeholders.

By taking a more proactive approach to economic development and recruiting businesses that fit Lafayette’s needs and character, we can create a more vibrant downtown and generate more revenue to strengthen community services.
